From Smart Tourism to Healthier Territories

Lagos WellTech Summit Advisory Board member Adolfo Borrero will moderate a timely discussion in Seville on how shared digital infrastructure can help cities manage tourism more intelligently—with relevance for the future of healthier, more resilient territories.

On 6 October, Adolfo Borrero Villalón, President of AMETIC's Smart Cities Commission, will moderate a session at the Tourism Innovation Summit exploring the Smart Destination Platform as an infrastructure for tourism management. Taking place from 16:40 to 17:20 at the Auditorium Illes Balears, the discussion will bring together municipal representatives from Seville, Santander, Las Rozas and Rivas Vaciamadrid. The session will be delivered in Spanish, with simultaneous English translation.

The agenda focuses on integrating data, improving decision-making and enabling more coordinated tourism management for visitors and residents. For the Lagos WellTech Summit, this raises a broader question: how can a destination's intelligence contribute to the wellbeing of everyone who uses it?

A shared agenda for tourism and wellbeing

Tourism and territorial wellbeing meet in everyday places: walking routes, public spaces, transport networks, cultural venues and recreational facilities. Decisions about these environments shape both the visitor experience and residents' quality of life.

From our perspective, smarter destination management offers an opportunity to bring these concerns into the same conversation. Could better information help municipalities identify accessibility barriers, understand seasonal pressures or improve access to activities that support active living? Could success be assessed through benefits to residents alongside tourism performance?

These are questions we see emerging from the session's theme, and they connect directly with the Lagos WellTech Summit's focus on territorial health, longevity and digital innovation. Our ambition is to connect dialogue with practical experimentation, collaboration and measurable territorial impact.

Adolfo Borrero: connecting the conversations

As a member of our Advisory Board, Adolfo brings expertise in smart territories, digital tourism and urban innovation to the Summit's multidisciplinary agenda. His moderation at TIS provides a valuable opportunity to connect the challenges facing tourism destinations with the questions we are exploring in Lagos.

That connection requires more than technology. It depends on municipalities, businesses, researchers and communities agreeing on what better outcomes look like—and how to work towards them together.

As we develop the next chapter of the Lagos WellTech Summit, we look forward to learning from this discussion. The opportunity is to build destinations where digital innovation supports welcoming visitor experiences, stronger communities and healthier everyday lives.
