Building a shared science of life
Health does not stop at the hospital door, nor can it be understood through one field of knowledge alone. It is shaped by animals, ecosystems, food, living conditions and the choices we make in the places we call home.
One Health, Many Ways of Knowing grew out of a dialogue led by Egas Moniz School of Health & Science. It brings scientific knowledge, professional experience, institutional perspectives and community voices into the same conversation. Its contributors explore education, prevention, biodiversity, food systems, public policy, territorial planning, innovation and civic participation.

Egas Moniz School of Health & Science sponsored this book and the One Health thematic strand of the Lagos WellTech Summit 2026. Its support gave the Summit a space to bring together perspectives on the health of people, animals, communities and the environment.
The institution also led the One Health dialogue from which this publication grew. The resulting volume carries that conversation beyond the Summit, inviting researchers, professionals, policymakers and citizens to connect their different ways of knowing.

The Lagos WellTech Summit brings health, wellbeing, science, innovation and place into conversation. This book shares that ambition: complex challenges call for conversations that cross institutional and disciplinary boundaries.
The publication is part of the knowledge legacy of the 2026 edition. It was edited by Manuel Pequito, José João Mendes and Paulo Nunes de Abreu, General Curator of the Lagos WellTech Summit.
