Teresa Correia, PhD

Head of the Quantitative Bio-Imaging Lab, CCMAR | Featured Speaker, Lagos WellTech Summit
Teresa Matias Correia leads the Quantitative Bio-Imaging Lab and coordinates the Imaging Platform at CCMAR — the Centre of Marine Sciences at the University of Algarve. She is also a Visiting Lecturer at the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences, King's College London. Her research connects physics, biomedical engineering and artificial intelligence to develop imaging technologies for applications in human health and marine biology.
She holds a degree in Engineering Physics from Instituto Superior Técnico and a PhD in Medical Physics from University College London. Before joining CCMAR, she held research positions at University College London and King's College London, working on optical imaging, image reconstruction and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, with a focus on translating technological advances into clinical practice.
Her work includes developing accelerated imaging methods, motion-correction techniques, and AI-based tools for image reconstruction and analysis. She leads an international research consortium supported by the "la Caixa" Foundation to improve the quantitative assessment of heart disease through magnetic resonance imaging, bringing together expertise from Portugal and Spain.
As a Featured Speaker at the Lagos WellTech Summit, Teresa brings an interdisciplinary perspective on biomedical imaging, AI, and translational research, exploring how imaging advances can support earlier diagnosis, more precise assessment, and improved healthcare.
